So after that long hiatus, I'm back with hopefully more consistent posts. I've recently been thinking about the idea of college. How college is seen as such a big part of life (which it is, but I'll explain further). When you're in college and someone asks you about your life, that's the first thing you say. When people ask where you live, you usually say where your family is/where you were before college. I feel like the idea of "moving out" from your family's house is more of a "long trip away".
As a child, going to elementary through middle school was school. You lived in you city, in your house, and school was just a part of your life, among many other things like friends, hobbies, camps, activities, your family, etc. But in college, that's the main thing you do. Go to college. You go to college and then sometimes partake in other activities like staying in your dorm or apartment. You don't live in the city where your college is and sometimes go to school, you basically live in college.
Now I understand that most people live in dorms especially their first years and so technically they are living in college, but my point is more that college is viewed as the primary purpose of your life, not as a secondary part of it.
I am also aware that for some, this makes it easier. They don't want to be living completely by themselves, but I feel like a good intermediary between living at home and going to school and loving alone and working is living more or less on your own and going to college.
Anyways, that was more of an observation than a declaration of my opinion, but just to state it anyways, I think that I would rather be living in my college city, and have college be one of the many things in my life that I do.
Sorry again for the long absence, but I should be up and running now.
